Bliss of Reentry: Part IV

Super sorry for the delay.  Something insane was going on with my computer, and every computer savvy friend I have made me think that I had some sort monster virus, so I had take it to get checked out. It wasn’t a monster virus. It was some setting that was conflicting with another setting… or something, I don’t even know. But, sorry for the disappearance.

I’m back up, and because I missed last week’s update, I’ll have a double update today.

I want to thank Mao over at Wings of Steel for all of her advice and help. She seriously helped save the day. THANKS MAO!

Quick Note:  This update contains some sexual references, and profanities. Use discretion.

Thanks,

Pardon the delay!

So, I’ve been trying to upload pictures off and on for a little bit now, and for some reason, my png files are not showing up.  I’m just getting huge black boxes, and no one wants that. I would switch to jpg format or gif, but I can’t stand the quality of those formats.  So, plan F. I’m going to call my personal computer/windows/internet wizard (read: boyfriend), and hopefully I can get things running by tommorrow. Sorry!

Quick Sidebar

Just so there isn’t any confusion (I don’t think there was, but someone pointed out that there might be), the last entry, Bliss of Reentry: Part III, took place in the past. It’s intent was to give a tiny peak into one of the former trials in the lives of Hadrian and Aeryn. Yeah.

Later on today, I will be posting Part IV of the chapter, which will return to the time frame we started with. Just so no one is confused. If anyone was confused. I hope not. Rambling.

Sims 3

So EA just opened their sims 3 website today, (it’s obviously getting some superior levels of traffic because it’s loading time is like watching grass grow) and I really just don’t like the looks of this upcoming game.  I mean, I appreciate the ideas: the removal of loading between lots, the freedom to travel the neighborhood, the more flexible Create-A-Sim options, the unique character personality trait thingy. I’m super excited about those things, but the sims themselves look so… how to describe it… squishy? Maybe?

There is this monopoly game that my nephew can’t touch his computer without playing. He found it in some bargain bin at a drug store somewhere and bought it for like 3 cents pretty much because it was made in 1999. When I look at these screenshots, I think of that game. Monopoly. From 1999.

I think I thought that they were going to go in a more realistic direction, like final fantasy or something, and lose the simmy feel. But it looks like they are getting even more simmy, if that makes sense.

Whatevs. Maybe my eyes have just become too adapted to the Sims 2 look and feel. And really, my griping means nothing because I’m absolutely going to pre-order the balls off that thing. Check it out.

Bohemianscibe also posted a link to an interesting Sims 3 first-look article yesterday.

Unrelated: I’m gonna be playing around with my site layout, especially my links, so things might be jumping around and looking a little unkempt. It’s probably going to look exactly the same tommorrow, but I just want to apologize for over-pinging anyone between now and Friday.

Kind of related: Should this post have a warning on it because I said “balls”? Twice?

Bliss of Reentry: Part II

Quick Note: There is some use of adult language in this post (one character has a penchant for the use of a 4-letter word that starts with “sh” and ends with “it”.), so please use discretion.

Quicker Note: This update is kind of early, but I plan on updating again this coming Friday, anyway. Friday will be my official updating day… until I tweak out and change it.

Quickest Note: The Sims 2 default lighting sucks so bad, I want to smack it in the head.

A few days = a month

Yeah, so I was planning on starting the series exactly one month ago, however, the computer that I favor decided to abandon me. And by abandon me, I mean crash and burn in a dramatic episode of pain and weird mechanical noises that computers should never make. The reason is still unbeknownst to me, and it is in the process of being remedied (if it can be remedied). But, unfortunately, I lost the bulk of my files, including an entire chapter of my series.  This meant I had to begin the series all over again on my alternate computer which is noticably inferior in terms of Sims 2 play.  I can’t use many mods on it and the Sims have only been expanded up to Seasons, so I had to work a little harder to get things back on board.  However, things are as back on board as they are going to be, and the story will begin on Friday (oorah!).  Thanks for your patience, and thanks to those of you who emailed me to hurry the heck up. Will do.

Coming Soon!

Welcome to After The Calling, and thank you very much for passing through.

After The Calling is a modern sci-fi story enhanced with shots taken during Sims 2 gameplay.  The story will follow the lives of a group of psychics whose abilities are at risk of exploitation by higher powers. The series should begin within the next few days, and there will be one or more updates a week.

At the moment, I am working (unwisely) between 2 computers: one with a crappy graphics card, but amazing everything else, and one with an amazing graphics card, but crappy everything else. The computers aren’t compatible, so I can’t switch anything around, and I’m being too stubborn to update the hardware of either. This basically means that the quality of my shots will vary between posts, outside of any tweaking I do, but I’m hoping that it won’t mess with the continuity. Hoping.

I want to thank the entire Sims 2 community for inspiring me to do this, as well as the many brilliant Sims 2 machinimist and story bloggers out there (particularly Decorgal, Atomic Space Kitty at Worlds Apart, goodbye_sun at 100 Days of Sorrow, and Mao at Knock It Down and Wings Of Steel), not to mention all of the talented custom content creators who make game play that much more awesome. (I will be putting up a custom content page in the near future.)

Again, thanks for visiting!
